KUALA LUMPUR: The government wants to resolve poverty issues in the country, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
This, the Prime Minister said, would mainly involve the Malay and Indian communities who are mostly categorised in the lower-income bracket.
“When we talk about poverty, I want this issue to be resolved this year in 2023, which means (it would involve) the majority of Malays and Indians.
“I have given a strong message that no one in this country should have a problem providing milk to babies or uniforms for children going to school.
“It is our moral responsibility as Malaysians, and I, as the Prime Minister, to deal with this issue regardless if they are Malays or Indians or of other backgrounds,” he said in his keynote address during the International Tamil Research Conference in Universiti Malaya here on Saturday (July 22).
The Prime Minister urged all Malaysians to keep a distance from racism and reject any efforts to segregate or cause disharmony among the various races in the country.
“We encourage more people to send a clear message rebuking those who want to hijack and change the course of Malaysia. If we can surpass this challenge, we will have a better Malaysia.
“I will continue to support this cause irrespective of race and if I continue to get your support, Alhamdulillah (thank God) and if not, I will accept it but I will not sacrifice my principles.
“This great nation is for everyone and we shall overcome the challenge,” he added.
