State polls: Pakatan respects Barisan’s line-up, says Rafizi

GEORGE TOWN: Pakatan Harapan has always respected a party's choice of candidates, says Rafizi Ramli.

The PKR deputy president said this after Barisan Nasional unveiled its line-up for the upcoming state elections.

"We respect its choice of candidates. That has always been the strength of Pakatan all these years.

"We never interfere and now that we are in the same coalition, and part of the unity government with Barisan, we extend the same principle to them," he said during a press conference after the half-term engagement session of the 12th Malaysia Plan held at Olive Tree Hotel here in Bayan Lepas on Saturday (July 22).

Rafizi was asked to comment on Barisan’s line-up, which was unveiled on Friday (July 21), and if it would help Pakatan with the coming state elections.

"When we negotiate the seats, we look at each other's strengths.

"When a party is given an opportunity to contest for a position and a particular seat, that is because the assessment is that the party stands a better chance to win.

"That is as far as the inter-party discussion goes," he said.

Barisan will be fielding 108 candidates for the state polls in six states.

Of the 108 seats, Barisan will contest 15 in Kedah, Terengganu (27), Kelantan (31), Penang (six), Selangor (12) and Negri Sembilan (17).

Nominations for the state elections will be on July 29 and polling on Aug 12.
