State polls: Uncertainty engulfs Selangor PKR ahead of candidacy announcement

KLANG: An air of trepidation has engulfed Selangor PKR as incumbent state assemblymen and hopefuls wait patiently to be informed of their candidacy for the upcoming state election.

"We usually receive phone calls in the morning itself from the party headquarters requesting us to receive our watikah (letter of appointment/offer) later in the evening.

"It's already past 1.30pm and no one has received the call from the party headquarters yet," said an incumbent assemblyman.

PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to announce the names and handover the letters to the selected candidates tonight.

Meanwhile, a party insider said the delay is due to pending issues related to the Kota Damansara and Port Klang constituencies.

The incumbents for these seats are Shatiri Mansor and Azmizam Zaman Huri respectively.

"There is some consideration for the Kota Damansara seat to be given to a Youth chief.

"The final decision will come from the party president," he said.

According to another source, most of those who have served three terms already, are unlikely to be selected to contest this time around.

Instead, some division leaders, regarded as deserving, will be slotted into the constituencies vacated by the “third-termers”.
