SHAH ALAM: Caretaker Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari will defend the Sungai Tua seat in Selangor while rapper Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman Alhadad, also known as Altimet, will be fielded as the candidate for Lembah Jaya.
Three-term Bukit Lanjan assemblywoman Elizabeth Wong has been dropped as a candidate and will now be replaced by Phua Pei Lei.
Najwan Halimi, who courted controversy recently over an alleged racial remark, was retained as the candidate for Kota Anggerik.
Negri Sembilan caretaker Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun will contest the Sikamat seat.
In announcing the list of PKR candidates last night, Prime Minister and Pakatan Harapan chief Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said both Amirudin and Aminuddin would remain as Pakatan’s Mentri Besar candidates for Selangor and Negri Sembilan.
Anwar said the decision was taken after considering the performance of the leaders and how approachable they were to the people.
“Amirudin is among the more successful MBs in the country,” Anwar said.
Similarly, DAP’s Chow Kon Yeow will be the chief minister candidate for Penang.
“PKR also welcomes the (DAP’s) decision for Chow to be re-appointed as chief minister because of his performance,” he added.
On Aminuddin, he said the discussions on seat allocation took a while.
However, he said the coalition decided that there was need for continuity of previous policies under the previous state government.
He said Pakatan had also conveyed its decision to Barisan Nasional chief Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Nomination day for the six state polls is slated to take place on July 29 and polling is scheduled for Aug 12.
