Eight go missing during fishing trip in Tawau


KOTA KINABALU: A search is on for eight people believed to have gone missing while fishing in waters off Tawau district.

The eight were said to have departed for their fishing trip in waters close to Kg Inderasabah on Sunday (July 23) but did not return home.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Hamsa Isnurdini said a missing people’s report was received at around 1.15pm on Monday (July 24).

“It is suspected that the boat had sunk and the eight have gone missing due to this incident,” he said in a statement.

He said firemen together with police and other enforcement officials are involved in the search of the vessel and victims.
