State polls: GRS will help its allies in unity govt, says Hajiji

KOTA KINABALU: Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) will help unity government candidates in the six state elections, says Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

"We want to go and help our unity government candidates," Hajiji, who is the seven-party GRS charman, told reporters after launching the GRS women's wing roadshow programme here Sunday (July 23).

However, he said that they were still in the process of making final preparations for the areas they would send teams to help in the campaign.

"We still have time, we will make final decisions before the nomination day (July 29)," said Hajiji, whose GRS is part of the federal unity government and works with Pakatan Harapan at the state level.

Other state parties within the unity government, Parti KDM led by Datuk Peter Anthony and Sabah Barisan Nasional led by Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin have said that they will be campaigning for unity government candidates in Selangor.

Both KDM and Sabah Barisan have a choppy relationship with the GRS-led state government while Parti Warisan led by Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal stands in opposition with the GRS at the state level.

Shafie had previously said that Warisan was not going to contest in the six state elections but was ready to support unity candidates in areas they had support and strength.

Gabungan Parti Sarawak chairman Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg has also said that they will help their federal allies Pakatan Harapan and Barisan in the Aug 12 six state elections.
