Man gets 30 years for ganja plant


KOTA KINABALU: A man who had a cannabis plant in his room at a house in Penampang has been sentenced to life imprisonment, or 30 years as defined under the Criminal Justice Act 1954, by the Sessions Court here.

Session Court judge Elsie Primus also ordered Nicklen Jaccqres, 28, to be given seven strokes of the cane after finding him guilty of the offence.

Jaccqres was found guilty of having in his possession and planting a 44.7cm cannabis plant weighing 6.36g in a room at a house at Kampung Bahang at 2.40pm on Aug 19, 2020.

He was convicted under Section 6B (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, with Judge Primus ordering the sentence to take effect from the date of his arrest.
