No conspiracy to arrest Sanusi, says Deputy IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: There is no conspiracy leading to the arrest of caretaker Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, says Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.

"Anyone can make any claims. But you have to look at the chronology of events, he made the statement on July 11 and reports were lodged the next day. Then the Selangor Royal Council made a police report on July 14. Then we made the arrest.

"The question if the police started their investigations six months prior to his arrest or the existence of a conspiracy should not even arise.

"Action was taken following his statements that were (said to) insult the royal institution," he said after an event in Bukit Aman to send off police athletes to the World Police and Fire Games in Winnipeg, Canada.

He also urged everyone, especially politicians, to look at the Rukun Negara and understand what it stands for.

"Many warnings were made. If there are any individuals still inclined to insult royal institutions, strict actions will be taken.

"So be careful. We will take action regardless of your background," he said.

Regarding investigations into PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and former Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng, he said that investigation papers were sent to the Attorney General's Chambers on July 17.

"We are awaiting further instructions," he said.

In a rally in Kuala Ketil recently, Muhammad Sanusi claimed that a plot to arrest and discredit him had been planned six months ago.
