State polls: Stay away from Malay seats, Tasek Gelugor PAS Youth warns Gerakan president

PETALING JAYA: Gerakan president Datuk Dominic Lau should stay out of contesting in Malay seats in the upcoming six state elections, warns Tasek Gelugor PAS Youth.

The division's vice-chief Mohamad Ikhwan Afiq Mohamad Anwar said that if the Gerakan president did not take heed of their warnings, the division would campaign as independent candidates in Telok Ayer Tawar and Permatang Berangan.

“If Lau remains stubborn about contesting Malay seats, Tasek Gelugor PAS Youth, with all its machinery, will launch a movement to put forward an independent candidate on nomination day (July 29).

“Our division, with the voters in Permatang Berangan and Telok Air Tawar, will ensure both Gerakan and Bersatu candidates contesting in the two respective seats will lose if the demands are not met.

“If you play with fire, you will get burned. Do not challenge the patience of PAS Youth,” Ikhwan said in a statement posted on Facebook on Monday (July 24).

Previously, it was circulated online that Perikatan Nasional was rumoured to have distributed the three state seats - Permatang Berangan, Sungai Dua and Telok Air Tawar - under the Tasek Gelugor parliamentary constituency to each of its component parties.

Currently, the Tasek Gelugor parliamentary seat is held by Bersatu's Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan, who won in the 15th General Election last year with a 12,252 majority.

In the 14th General Election, Barisan Nasional won the Permatang Berangan and Sungai Dua with Nor Hafizah Othman and Datuk Muhamad Yusoff Mohd Noor, respectively, while PKR held the Telok Ayer Tawar state seat with Datuk Mustafa Kamal Ahmad.
