Company director claims trial to selling 34.5 tonnes of sugar without a licence

SEREMBAN: A company director has claimed trial to a charge of dealing in a controlled item, namely 34,560kg of sugar, without a valid licence.

Low Zishi, 24, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him before Sessions judge Mazni Nawi in court here on Wednesday (July 26).

The accused was charged with not having a licence that allowed him to do business involving a controlled item with a company which had a network of convenience stores.

He allegedly committed the offence at around 10.30am on Oct 13 at his company's premises in the Sendayan Tech Valley.

Low was charged with violating Rule 3(1) of the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974 which states that no individual is allowed to deal by wholesale or retail in such goods without a valid licence.

This is an offence under Rule 21 of the same regulations and punishable under Section 22 (2) of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

Corporate offenders can be fined up to RM2mil upon conviction.

Khairul Azman Rosli from the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry prosecuted while the accused was represented by Asmawi Ismail.

Judge Mazni then fixed Aug 23 for next mention.
