Maqis seizes over 27 tonnes of frozen chicken in Pasir Gudang Port

Maqis seized over 27 tonnes of frozen chicken in unlabelled boxes at Pasir Gudang Port.

PASIR GUDANG: Over 27,000KG of frozen chicken arriving from China has been seized by the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services (Maqis) Department at Pasir Gudang Port here.

Maqis said in cooperation with the Customs Department, they seized the frozen chicken found in 1,840 boxes worth more than RM289,000.

"Based upon information and intelligence, a team of enforcement officers from Maqis and Customs inspected a container arriving from China at around 5pm on Thursday (July 20).

"Checks found a total of 1,840 boxes and further inspection found that the boxes were not labelled," it said in a statement here on Wednesday (July 26).

Maqis also said further checks found that the consignment did not have any related documents such as a Maqis import permit, veterinary health certificate or halal certificate.

Such an act is an offence under Section 11(1) of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act.

The statement added that Maqis was always ready to carry out tasks at all entry points to ensure that agricultural commodities entering the country comply with conditions and regulations set to ensure food safety is guaranteed and safe for consumption.
