Semporna police looking for driver involved in hit-and-run that caused pedestrian death

KOTA KINABALU: The Semporna police are trying to locate the suspect involved in a hit-and-run that resulted in the death of a 62-year-old pedestrian last week.

Semporna OCPD Supt Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the victim was run over on July 19 at around 8pm along Jalan Kampung Selamat, Jalan Persisiran Pantai there.

"Early investigations found that a car driven by the suspect lost control and hit the victim who was walking along the side of the road.

"The driver fled after the incident, and the victim was brought to the Semporna hospital before he was declared dead on July 20.

"Efforts to locate the suspect are actively being carried out and the police would like to urge witnesses to the incident to come forward and give their statements," he said in a statement on Wednesday (July 26).

Supt Mohd Farhan said those with information could contact the investigating officer Insp Hemkkumar Ayathuray at 012-365 0021, and that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (causing death by reckless or dangerous driving).
