'Hulu Kelang was my first seat', says Azmin

PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional information chief Datuk Seri Azmin Ali (pic) denies running away from electoral challenges, saying that he is ready to return to the seat where he first started his career.

Azmin was responding to rumours that he was afraid to contest as an incumbent candidate for the Bukit Antarabangsa state seat.

"I want to make it clear that Hulu Kelang is the first seat I've ever won in 1999, and when I became the Gombak MP for three terms in 2008, Hulu Kelang has always been under the Gombak constituency.

"So I am not running away from anything and as a leader I must always be ready for any challenge," he said during the Perikatan Nasional election candidates announcement," said Azmin to reporters when met at Taman Medan on Wednesday (July 26).

Azmin was the Hulu Kelang assemblyman for one term until 2004.

He was a three term Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman and Gombak MP which he won under the PKR ticket.

In 2020, Azmin quit PKR after the Sheraton Move and later joined Bersatu.

Earlier, Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced all 56 candidates for the coalition in Selangor.
