KUALA TERENGGANU: Win the Aug 12 state election first before talking about the mentri besar's post, says Terengganu Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Said.
The Umno state liaison chairman also said the decision on the appointment was the prerogative of the state’s Ruler.
"We need to win first and get the majority.
"That matter (appointment of the MB) is the prerogative of Tuanku (the Sultan of Terengganu)," he responded when asked about the party's "poster boy" at Umno state headquarters here on Thursday (July 27).
He added that no discussions had been held about the post.
"There was never any talk about a poster boy or 'whatever boy'.
"We leave it to the party leadership," he said after handing over appointment letters to Barisan candidates.
Barisan was contesting 27 out of 32 seats in the state.
Its candidates include two former mentris besar – Ahmad Said in Kijal and Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman in Seberang Takir.
In 2018, PAS won 22 seats in the legislative assembly to form the state government, while Barisan/Umno won 10.
