Student bags Kazakh award for paper on Maliau Basin

A STUDENT from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) has won an award in Kazakhstan for her research paper on Sabah’s Maliau Basin Conservation Area, Makkal Osai reported.

Alina Pannirselvam took part in the Second International Unesco Model on World Heritage which was held in Almaty.

Her presentation on the rich historical, cultural and natural heritage of Maliau and the changes faced by the community there won her the best speaker award at the conference.

She described her representation at the conference and the subsequent triumph as a special moment.

Alina, a former pupil of SJK (T) St Philomena Convent in Ipoh, was also happy to have made her school proud. She voiced gratitude to all her teachers, lecturers and her parents.

Pannirselvam Ramasamy had amassed items of the Pahang Consolidated Company Limited (PCCL) such as service award medals, workers’ tokens, mining lamp inspection tokens and even PCCL tokens issued during the Japanese occupation.
