KUALA LUMPUR: A man, believed to be mentally unwell, trespassed on an LRT track and tried to molest a 27-year-old female passenger at the Maluri LRT station.
The woman was waiting for a train to arrive when the suspect hugged her from behind at 7.58am on Friday (July 28) at the Maluri LRT station, which is on the Ampang LRT line.
In a video that went viral, the victim can be heard wailing in fear while the suspect hugged her, before members of the public managed to pull him off her.
Rapid Rail, in a statement, said during the incident, auxiliary police personnel, who were on duty had rushed to the scene and tussled with the suspect.
"Members of the public managed to pull the suspect away from the victim but he acted aggressively before fleeing the scene," Rapid KL said.
Prasarana auxiliary police will work together with the police to assist the investigation and track down the suspect.
"Rapid Rail regrets the incident that occurred and action is being taken to increase the number of auxiliary policemen at various stations in order to boost security.
Meanwhile, Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Zam Halim Jamaluddin said the police are aware that a video of the incident has gone viral on social media.
"We received a police report from the victim that a man attempted to molest her and we have opened an investigation under Section 354 of the Penal Code.
"We are now in the midst of identifying the suspect," he said in a statement on Saturday (July 29).
He advised the public not to speculate on the matter or make any assumption.
