Man dies after car rams into bridge in Penampang


KOTA KINABALU: A man died after the car he was driving crashed into the retaining wall of a bridge in Penampang near here on Saturday (July 29).

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the victim was identified as Ahmad Syagul Nasip, 35.

The mishap occurred at about 5am near Kampung Dambai Proper off Jalan Papar Lama.

Acting Penampang police chief Deputy Supt Sammy Newton said the man was travelling from Donggongon, the Penampang district capital, when the incident occurred

He said the victim lost control of the car before crashing into the wall.

"As a result of the impact, the local man was confirmed dead by paramedics at the location," he said when contacted.

"The body has been sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital I for a post-mortem," he added.

DSP Sammy urged those with information or who witnessed the accident to contact the police to aid the probe framed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act.
