New international airport for Perak

IPOH: If all goes well, Perak will be getting a new international airport in Seri Iskandar in five years.

State infrastructure, energy, water and public transport committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin said the project is expected to be carried out by a London-based company known as Colebrand International Ltd via a private finance initiative.

He said the company’s representatives have met with officers from the Prime Minister’s Office, Transport Ministry as well as Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad over the project.

“The company specialises in major infrastructure construction,” he told reporters after a briefing on the project at the Perak Tengah Land and Mines Office yesterday.

The company representatives were also given a tour of the proposed airport site in Seri Iskandar.

“The 1,618ha plot of land identified for the airport is located near Felcra Nasaruddin.

“The land is partly owned by Felcra, State Secretary Inc and the Perak government,” said Mohammad Nizar.
