KOTA BARU: "We will defend Islam in Kelantan." Those are the words of Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

In his speech here on Saturday (July 29), the Deputy Prime Minister said Kelantan voters should not be easily deceived by narratives claiming the Federal Government does not care about Islam.

"They said Islam will be affected and harmed if we (Barisan and Pakatan Harapan) take over.

"But, if that is the case, then why did the Prime Minister, who is also the Finance Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) channel millions of ringgit for Tahfiz schools?

"This is only one example. We do this because we care about Islam and we will always defend Islam in this country," he said when launching Barisan and Pakatan machinery for state seats under the Kota Baru parliamentary constituency at the Umno building here.

The Umno president also pledged to end poverty in Kelantan, adding that the Federal administration would need the help and support of local voters.

Ahmad Zahid also urged the Barisan and Pakatan election machinery to work together to ensure victory for all candidates fielded by unity government parties.

"Forget about the colours. The reds (Pakatan) must support the blue (Barisan) and vice versa.

"This is our chance to help the people of Kelantan so they too can experience development like in other states. It is time voters know that Barisan and Pakatan uphold Islam.

"We must also help end the obsession with one political party which promises the heavens, something that is impossible for any human being to do as it is the work of God."
