State polls: Independent candidate not afraid of losing deposit

SEREMBAN: The last time Bujang Abu went up against caretaker Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun for the Sikamat seat, the 72-year-old grandfather only managed to secure 15 votes.

But this has not deterred the former Tenaga Nasional Bhd technician to take on the state Pakatan Harapan chief who is himself vying for his fourth term.

"As an individual who believes in the Almighty, I am hereby offering myself again. Being in the same ring as the MB is something that I relish," he said when met after filing his nomination papers at the Coral Height community hall.

Prior to contesting for the Sikamat seat in 2018, Bujang had also stood for the Seremban parliamentary seat in 2013, where he only got 83 votes.

"I am contesting as I have a lot of free time and I wish to serve. As someone who had worked in a utility company before, I know many people in the government departments and agencies and I can help the constituents if elected," he said.

Bujang added that he would be using the image of spectacles as his logo.

Asked if he was not afraid of another trouncing and losing his deposit, Bujang said he had no reason to fear

"I passed my Form Three examination on the eighth attempt. So, do I look as if I am afraid of failure?," he asked.

Bujang said there were many candidates who had contested and failed more times compared to him.

Asked how he managed to raise the election deposit, Bujang said he received a pension and had been saving for the past five years.

"Money is not a concern for me. If I live long enough, I will make another attempt in the next election," said the father of five.
