MACC to monitor state polls to curb graft, power abuse

PETALING JAYA: Round-the-clock operations rooms have been set up by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to keep tabs on the six state elections and Kuala Terengganu parliamentary by-election.

Seven operations rooms were set up, namely, at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya and their respective offices in Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.

"The operation rooms will allow members of the public to channel information including lodging reports of corruption and abuse of power during the state elections and the Kuala Terengganu by-election period.

"The MACC also reminds all candidates and political parties not to resort to activities that are against the law or election regulations in line with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 and Election Offences Act 1954," the commission said in a statement on Saturday (July 29).

The commission said that the operation rooms will operate from July 29 to Aug 12.
