KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu Muda has lodged a police report against Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi over his speech made before nomination day, alleging that the Barisan Nasional chairman was using ministry funds to win support of the youth.
Muda alleged that the Deputy Prime Minister's announcement about RM200,000 cash aid for motorcycle clubs in Terengganu amounted to vote-buying.
"Muda is strongly against the use of ministry funds as campaign tools," the party said in a statement on Saturday (July 29).
On Friday (July 28), Ahmad Zahid during the Himpunan Belia Lestari Generasi Unggul event at Bandar Al Muktafi Billah Shah in Dungun, said he had approved the allocation, adding that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim would increase the amount.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, claimed that the allocation would be given if youths in Terengganu "rode the red and blue waves in the state" in the upcoming polls.
All Muda candidates participating in the six state elections issued a joint statement echoing the same sentiment.
They also called for the Election Commission to take prompt action and urge the Federal Government to clarify its stance on the matter.
"We sternly reject old politics such as this and call on the rakyat to make wise choices," read the statement signed by all 19 candidates.
