Campaign respectfully, Anwar urges all the parties

KUALA LUMPUR: Campaign respectfully, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He called on parties contesting in the state elections to heed this advice.

“Let us all campaign in an orderly, courteous and civilised manner,” he told reporters yesterday.

Anwar, who is also Pakatan Harapan chairman, said he was satisfied with the nomination process which went on smoothly in Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.

“Alhamdulillah, everything went smoothly. The candidates also submitted their nomination papers in order,” he said.

Earlier, Anwar, who was accompanied by Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and Barisan Nasional secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, showed support for several unity government candidates contesting in Selangor.

He expressed appreciation to Abang Johari and Hajiji for their support for the unity government candidates from Pakatan and Barisan.

The Prime Minister made stops at several nomination centres including at SMK Sungai Pusu in Gombak, Selayang Municipal Council and Dewan Datuk Ahmad Razali in Ampang.

He later stopped at a restaurant in Ampang Jaya for breakfast.

In Kelantan, Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the people of Kelantan must opt for a change by giving the unity government parties the opportunity to win the Aug 12 elections.

“Give us a chance to bring changes to this state. Try to give just one term, only five years. If we do the same thing or do things that are not right, then change back.

“But this time, give your support to us. We will do our best,” he said at a gathering with the Kelantan government retirees association in Gua Musang yesterday.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister, said while the government was not perfect, it would rectify mistakes for the benefit of the people in the state.

“We will defend the fate of the people of Kelantan. We will overcome its state of backwardness by bringing rapid development, ” he said.
