State polls: PSM's Kajang candidate makes anti-racism pledge

KAJANG: Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) deputy chairman S. Arutchelvan has made an anti-racism pledge while on the campaign trail at the market here.

He said racial discrimination and racial politics are chronic diseases that are devastating to the people of Malaysia.

“I will not play on racial issues to gain votes or support from the people. I will refrain from using any racial elements in all election campaign activities," said Arutchelvan.

He added that this includes speeches, comments, press releases, social media posts, publications, banners, or any campaign materials that promote discrimination or foster hatred towards any ethnic group or migrant communities.

"I will also ensure that all our activities and advocacy are based on social class rather than on skin colour and ethnicity. Our targeted groups for the manifesto and our endeavours are the oppressed communities, regardless of their racial background," said Arutchelvan.

He added that he would propose the implementation of an Equality Act if he is successfully elected as a state assemblyman.

Arutchelvan is currently contesting for the Kajang state seat against Pakatan Harapan’s David Cheong and Perikatan Nasional’s Liew Sin Kim.
