Two-term limit for Penang CM post stays, says Chow

BUTTERWORTH: DAP will not permit any re-amendments to the Penang constitution’s two-term limit for the chief minister’s post, says state party chairman Chow Kon Yeow.

He said party secretary-general Anthony Loke also did not agree to amend the state constitution to allow unlimited terms for a chief minister.

"I don’t know who made the suggestion but obviously DAP will not allow it to happen,” he told reporters after launching the Pakatan Harapan operations centre for the Prai constituency here today (July 30).

He was responding to claims there were moves to amend the state constitution to allow former chief ministers who have served two terms to be reappointed to the position.

The Penang assembly had passed an amendment to the state constitution limiting the chief minister to two terms of service.

On claims that the state executive council line-up had already been decided, Chow, who is also Penang Pakatan chairman, said it would only be decided if they were victorious in the upcoming state election.

"If we win and I can be sworn in as chief minister, then only can we think of a line-up as it will involve all winning parties, not only DAP,” he said.
