State polls: Barisan eager to resume its service to the people of Pedu, says Mahdzir


ALOR SETAR: There is unfinished business for Barisan Nasional in Kedah's Pedu state seat, says its candidate Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.

The Kedah Barisan chairman said since the 14th General Election (GE14), there was no representative from the coalition at the state government level to continue the work of improving the people's welfare.

"Those who live here are eager for the services of a representative of the people, especially in matters that can help them in their daily life," he said during a walkabout at Kampung Kubang Kenyeng on Monday (July 31).

He said these improvements included children's education and upgraded infrastructure.

"For example, if they need help when their children are about to go to school or university, where can they go?

"When orphans do well in school, (who will) help them continue their studies?" he asked.

Mahdzir said such continuity of service had been missing for some time, and he hoped Pedu voters give him the opportunity to reconnect with them and regain what they lost.

Although Mahdzir won the Padang Terap parliamentary seat in GE14, the two state constituencies under it – Pedu and Kuala Nerang – went to PAS.

In GE15, Barisan lost its presence in the area when Mahdzir was defeated by PAS' Nurul Amin Hamid with a 10,959-vote majority.

He said the people had begun to realise that they cannot reject Barisan completely after seeing the difference in service provided by both parties.

"I would like to urge the voters to vote based on service and not sentiment... think what benefits they can receive from the candidate they select," he added.
