State polls: No roadworks on Central Spine Road to make voters' journey easier

GUA MUSANG: The Works Ministry has given its assurance that there will be no disruption of traffic flow on expressways because of roadworks ahead of the six state elections on Aug 12.

This included the Central Spine Road (CSR) project, Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad said.

He added that this was in anticipation of an increased volume of vehicles using the expressway from Aug 11 with voters returning to their home states cast their ballots.

All works, including construction work on the CSR, will be stopped to avoid traffic disruption at least a week before polling day, he told reporters after inspecting the CSR project at KM251 (FT008) near the Felda Chiku 3 bridge here on Sunday (July 30).

Abdul Rahman said construction of the CSR project, stretching 360km, was progressing smoothly under close monitoring by the ministry.

In another development, he said there will be some traffic disruption for two days in the Felda Chiku area up to Paloh (FT008) on Tuesday and Wednesday (Aug 1 and 2) because of the installation of five new bridge beams across Sungai Chiku for the CSP Project Package 2 Sungai Lakit Bridge to Gua Musang, and Section 2B: Paloh 2 to Bukit Sejuk.

As an alternative, motorists can use Jalan Felda Aring from Kota Baru to Kuala Lumpur, he added.

Abdul Rahman said the CSR package is being built for the benefit of people on the east coast, especially those travelling from Kota Baru, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang to Lipis, Raub and Bentong.

"We are actually targeting completion by early 2026, which involves all packages from Kota Baru to the intersection of the Kuala Lumpur-Karak highway or the East Coast Expressway (LPT) in Bentong," he added. – Bernama
