Disabled teen killed in fire in Seri Manjung


IPOH: A 15-year-old boy with disabilities died in a house that caught fire on Jalan Dato Haji Kamaruddin in Kampung Dato Sri Kamaruddin, Seri Manjung here.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department operations division assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received a call at 4.11pm Tuesday (Aug 1) regarding the fire, which destroyed the house.

"The fire killed a 15-year-old disabled male victim who was found on a bed in a room and was confirmed dead at the scene by Health Ministry personnel," he said in a statement here quoted by Bernama.

He said the mother of the victim had brought her other child, a baby, to work, and left the victim at home.

The fire was put out and the operation ended at 5.52pm on Tuesday, he said.

In a statement, Manjung OCPD Asst Comm Mohamed Nordin Abdullah said the case has been classified as sudden death.

He said police found no criminal elements in the case.

"The victim was alone during the incident.

"He lives there at the house with his mother and elder sister," he said, adding that the victim had a history of seizures at the Seri Manjung Hospital.

"The deceased's body has been sent to the hospital for a post-mortem.

"Those with information of the incident are urged to contact the nearest police station or call 05-688 6222," he added.
