Geologist stung by bees in Sapulut forest reserve

KOTA KINABALU: A 24-year-old man, who is part of an Indonesian geologists team, was stung by bees during a group expedition in Sapulut forest reserve in the interior division of Sabah late Monday (July 31).

The victim was reported to be suffering from breathing complications and faced difficulty to make the return trip home.

As of now, a team from the Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue Department assisted by the Sook fire station were making their way into the remote area, located 180km from Kinabatangan.

"According to the victim’s friend, they were part of a group of five geologists who entered the forest reserve to conduct research on coal.

"The rescuers began their mission this morning (Aug 1) at 6am and the friend has been instructed to wait for the team at Yayasan Sabah facility in Sook, so that they can be led to the location where the victim is.

"Information will be updated from time to time," said a department spokesman.

The other four geologists, aged between 25 and 33, are reported safe.
