Rafizi to debate with Mohd Syahir on Aug 9

PETALING JAYA: PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli and PAS assistant secretary-general Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman will battle it out in a debate session after the latter had initially declined Rafizi’s invitation.

Rafizi said that the debate would be held on Aug 9 with further details to be revealed soon.

"I was informed that Syahir has again accepted my invitation to debate after obtaining approval from his top leadership.

"I would like to express thanks. The debate would provide an opportunity for parties to present their ideas and offers to the people," he said on his Twitter account on Tuesday (Aug 1).

Syahir, who is Bachok MP, had declined Rafizi’s invitation for a debate on July 31, following the footsteps of Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, whom he described as an older brother.

"It is better to focus our time and energy to work and serve the people to solve all the issues and duties that await us.

"In this matter, I agree with my older brother, Sanusi," he said in a letter addressed to Rafizi.

On Monday (July 31), Rafizi took a swipe at Perikatan Nasional leaders for declining his invitation to debate on matters related to the economy.

Rafizi had invited the coalition’s big guns Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and Sanusi including Syahir who all turned down the challenge.

The Pandan MP also claimed that the Perikatan leaders’ refusal to debate was because they lacked ideas or economic plans.

"The evidence is in the states under their administration. Ruling is not merely a matter of power, but also the responsibility to better the lives of the people," he said.
