State polls: Judge me by my track record, not just my looks, says PN's Bertam candidate

KEPALA BATAS: Take a look at my track record and don't just judge me by my looks, says Perikatan Nasional's Bertam candidate Khaliq Mehtab Mohd Ishaq (pic) over a viral video.

Khaliq Mehtab, who is Penang Perikatan election director, said he was shocked that his video during the nomination at Dewan Millenium nomination centre had gone viral.

"To be honest I am shocked. I have been focused on serving the people here since 2018 and remain committed to serve the community," he said when contacted Tuesday (Aug 1).

The video, which was posted on Twitter, shows Khaliq on nomination day the post had garnered more than 500,000 views and more than 400 retweets.

Twitter user _TheJebs said that "It's giving Bailamos", in reference to Spanish Bailamos singer Enrique Iqlesias.

Another twitter user, Ainanino, replied "ni bukan YB, ni YBae" (This is not YB, this is YBae).

Another user asked, "Do we have his picture when he was young?."

To which _theJebs responded: "I don't care about his past, I want to see the future."

Khaliq Mehtab will be in a straight fight against Barisan Nasional heavyweight Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican for the Bertam state seat.

In the 14th General Election, Khaliq Mehtab, who contested on a Pakatan Harapan ticket, won the seat with a majority of 219 votes after garnering 6,485 votes, defeating Shariful Azhar Othman of BN, who obtained 6,268 votes and Mokhtar Ramli from PAS, who received 2,986 votes.

However, on Feb 24, 2020, Khaliq Mehtab withdrew his support for the Pakatan state government in favour of Bersatu, under Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s leadership, who is also Perikatan chairman.
