State polls: Najib’s supporters backing PN? It’s just propaganda, says Zahid

PORT DICKSON: The allegation that Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s supporters will back Perikatan Nasional in the state polls is merely Opposition propaganda, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Umno president said the claim was also denied by the former premier’s daughter, Nooryana Najib.

"Nooryana herself conveyed a message from Najib, saying that he does not endorse the mentioned party and strongly supports the unity government of Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan.

"Thus, when the supposed leader of the group urges support for the other side (Perikatan), it signifies that he is not aligned with us, and it is the propaganda of the Opposition,” said the Barisan chairman during a press conference held after a dialogue with Bagan Pinang and Linggi supporters.

Ahmad Zahid said Najib, as a former party leader from Umno and Barisan, shared the same views as Nooryana and his two other children, Datuk Mohd Nizar and Datuk Mohd Nazifuddin.

“This is considering that all three of his politically-involved children express consistent views, which have also been conveyed through the former premier’s official media channel," he said.

Recently, Persatuan Jalinan Perpaduan Negara Malaysia president, Syed Muhammad Imran Syed Abdul Aziz, claimed that Umno leaders were losing confidence in Ahmad Zahid's leadership.

Syed Imran claimed that his group's members would support Perikatan in the six state elections on Aug 12, supposedly out of disappointment with the national unity government for failing to secure a pardon for Najib.

Nooryana had said Najib conveyed to her in a message that any statement from the former premier would be issued through his official social media account.

"Najib's stand is only legitimate if it is uploaded on his official social media account through messages to his lawyer," said Nooryana.
