Two killed in motorcycle crash in Perak

IPOH: Two people were killed after the motorcycles they were on collided at KM19 of Jalan Bota Kiri-Tanjung Belanja in Perak Tengah.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the two victims are aged 64 and 17 and died on the spot in the 7pm incident on Monday (July 31).

Comm Mohd Yusri said that the investigation at the scene found that the 64-year-old man was a farmer who was heading to his house in Kampung Tua from the Tanjung Belanja direction.

"The 17-year-old SMK Iskandar Shah student was heading home from a surau and was coming from the opposite direction. Upon arriving at an intersection near his house, the older man made a sudden turn to the right," he said in a statement.

"The teenager could not stop his vehicle in time and crashed into the man's motorcycle. Both were not wearing helmets," he added.

Comm Mohd Yusri said both motorcyclists suffered head injuries and died on the spot.

He added that the post mortem will be carried out at the Changkat Melintang Hospital in Parit on Tuesday (Aug 1).

"The case will be investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act. We urge motorists to be careful while on the road and also to wear their helmets properly," he added.
