Worker finds dead man by roadside in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: A general worker found a dead body near a motorcycle while clearing overgrown bushes along Jalan Putatan here on Tuesday (Aug 1).

"I saw a tyre in the bushes and then caught a whiff of a stench. I went over and found that it was a motorcycle and the victim was beside it," said 64-year-old Ibnu Ismail.

He added that his co-workers called the police immediately after his discovery.

When police arrived, they found the deceased man to be 33-year-old Sefuan Taha, who was reported missing on July 23.

Penampang acting OCPD Deputy Supt Sammy Newton said when they received a call about the deceased man, a team was sent to investigate.

"Our officials later found out that the body is Sefuan’s; he was reported missing on July 23," he said in a statement.

He said they believe Sefuan had crashed his motorcycle and succumbed to his injuries prior to his discovery.

"The victim’s family has been called to identify the body," DSP Sammy said, adding a post mortem will be conducted.

He advised the public to not spread videos or photos of the scene or the victim as it involved the sensitivity of the family.
