DAP's interference with Islam a reason why ties severed, says Hadi

TASEK GELUGOR: DAP's interference with matters involving Islam and the Malays are one of the reasons why PAS severed ties with them, says party president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.

Abdul Hadi said that the decision was made after several disagreements on various issues including Islam, reinstating local council elections and the issue of mistreatment of certain states.

The Marang MP added that PAS opposed the proposal to reintroduce municipal elections, which were abolished after the May 13, 1969 incident as its implementation caused tensions between racial groups.

"Suddenly, they (DAP) want to reintroduce municipal elections. PAS disagreed with the inclusion in our joint manifesto," said Abdul Hadi

"I met with PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, to express PAS's disagreement because it is a political agenda," he said during his speech at the Ceramah Mega PN Best here on Tuesday night. (July 1).

He was responding to remarks made by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who asked PAS to explain their love-hate relationship with DAP as they had worked as political allies for 14 years in Kedah and Perak under two coalitions since 2008.

The Pakatan Harapan secretary general questioned where and under which Islamic 'dalil' (reasoning) is it written for such cooperation between the parties to be deemed illegal now.

Abdul Hadi also said that PAS could not agree with DAP's stance, which promoted secularism as part of their ideology.

"So these are some disagreements. We used to work based on other issues. But other principal matters arose, so we parted ways," he explained.
