Death of detainee in Sarawak to be investigated, says Bukit Aman


KUALA LUMPUR: A 50-year-old man who was arrested for criminal intimidation died while in custody in Sarawak.

Bukit Aman Integrity and Standard Compliance Department director Comm Datuk Seri Azri Ahmad said the suspect was detained on Monday (July 31) under Section 506 of the Penal Code.

"On the way to the Marudi police headquarters, the detainee complained of chest pains and trouble breathing. He was then brought to the Beluru Health Clinic for treatment. However, the detainee passed away later the same night," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Aug 2).

Comm Azri said a post-mortem will be conducted at Hospital Miri on Thursday (Aug 3) to discover the cause of death.

"The Department's Criminal and Custodial Death Investigation Unit will conduct an investigation on the matter," he said.
