Drug addict leads Johor cops on high-speed chase before crashing


JOHOR BARU: A 31-year-old man led the police on a high speed chase here before his car hit a metal fence.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said a police mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) spotted a car being driven in a suspicious manner along Jalan Tebrau at around 2am on Wednesday (Aug 2) morning.

"The car then suddenly sped off dangerously. A total of seven police MPVs chased the suspect over 15km for about 11 minutes.

"The chase came to an end when the car hit a metal fence at a gated residential area here," he said here on Wednesday.

ACP Raub added that the suspect sustained some light injuries but was given medical treatment at the scene by policemen.

"Checks showed the suspect has nine previous offences on his criminal record, including four for drugs. He also tested positive for methamphetamine," he said, adding that police also seized the suspect's car.

ACP Raub also said the suspect was currently under remand until Saturday (Aug 5) and urged those with information to contact the Johor Baru south police hotline at 07-218 2323.
