Khaliq Mehtab: Don’t just judge me by my looks

KEPALA BATAS: Take a look at my track record and don’t just judge me by my looks, says Perikatan Nasional’s Bertam candidate Khaliq Mehtab Mohd Ishaq (pic) over a viral video.

He expressed shock that his video on nomination day had gone viral.

“To be honest, I have been focusing on serving the people here since 2018. Let my track record be the judge,” he said.

The video, which was posted on Twitter, shows Khaliq Mehtab on nomination day. The post had garnered more than 500,000 views and more than 400 retweets.

Twitter user _TheJebs said that “It’s giving Bailamos”, in reference to Spanish Bailamos singer Enrique Iqlesias.

Another twitter user, Ainanino, replied “ni bukan YB, ni YBae” (This is not YB, this is YBae).

Another user asked, “Do we have his picture when he was young?”

To which _TheJebs responded: “I don’t care about his past, I want to see the future.”

Khaliq Mehtab said he had gone to the ground even before campaign started to get feedback directly from his constituents.

“I think the people of Bertam know me well. My commitment towards them remains the same. I will continue to serve my constituents the best as I can if I am given the opportunity again,” he said.

The 47-year-old, who has legal background, is defending his Bertam seat in this state election.

He is in a straight fight against Barisan Nasional heavyweight Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican.

In the 14th General Election, Khaliq Mehtab, who contested on a Pakatan Harapan ticket, won the seat with a majority of 219 votes and defeated Shariful Azhar Othman of Barisan Nasional and Mokhtar Ramli from PAS.

On Feb 24, 2020, he withdrew support for the Pakatan Harapan-led state government in favour of Bersatu, under Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s leadership.
