KOTA KINABALU: Fly the Malaysian flag in the spirit of patriotism this month, says the Sabah Chief Minister.

Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said every citizen should fly the Jalur Gemilang with pride, be it at home, in the office and even on vehicles.

He said a high spirit of patriotism would lead to continued unity, harmony and prosperity among the people.

“As Malaysians, we must be proud of our country and feel lucky that we are part of a sovereign nation,” he said in his opening speech when launching the National Day Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign in the city here yesterday.

Hajiji said the peace and harmony enjoyed in the country were priceless and must be preserved and protected at all costs.

“Therefore, we must continue to instil a sense of patriotism and unity amongst ourselves and our children so that the sovereignty of this nation can be preserved forever, and challenges that we may face in future can be addressed together,” he said in his speech delivered by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam.

In conjunction with National Day Month, a series of programmes have been drawn up, such as the Kembara Merdeka Negaraku organised by the Sabah Information Department and a short video competition.

Hajiji also took the opportunity to remind all to continue their support for the current state government so that planned development initiatives can be carried out smoothly for the benefit of all.
