State polls: 372 police reports lodge so far, two arrests made, says IGP


KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 372 police reports have been lodged during the six state elections so far, says Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

The Inspector-General of Police said as of Tuesday (Aug 1), the highest number of police reports were in Kedah with 147, followed by Selangor (133), Terengganu (58), Negri Sembilan (25), Kelantan (5) and Penang (4).

"Two individuals have been,.

"We have also opened 24 investigation papers (IPs) during the same period," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Aug 2).

Among the offences were committing mischief under Section 427 of the Penal Code, Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft, Section 500 of the Penal Code for slander, and Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act, he said.

"For example in Kedah, there was an incident where a political party's banner was torn.

"In Negri Sembilan, there was theft of chairs from a political party headquarters, while In Terengganu, there was a slander case involving an election candidate," he said.

The IGP said the police are committed to ensuring the safety of all involved in the elections.

"We will take stern action against those who do not adhere to the laws.

"We hope all candidates and their supporters will maintain political maturity throughout the campaign and avoid any unwanted incident," he said.
