State polls: Fahmi was not campaigning in Rawang mosque, say cops

SHAH ALAM: There is no element of campaigning in the speech given by Fahmi Fadzil at a mosque in Rawang on Sunday (July 30), says Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.

The Selangor police chief said the police had scrutinised a 12-minute video recording of the speech made by the Communications and Digital Minister.

"He was explaining (the issue about) the band The 1975 and we have not found any element of campaigning.

"A total of eight witnesses were called up to assist the investigation," he told a press conference at the state police headquarters here on Wednesday (Aug 2).

The individual who spread the video has also identified as well, Comm Hussein said.

"We are in the midst of tracking down the individual for making a false statement.

"We are investigating it under Section 500 of the Penal Code, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act and Section 4A(1) of the Election Offences Act 1954," he said.

It was reported that the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) was investigating claims that Fahmi had recently delivered a political speech at a mosque in Kampung Melayu Seri Kundang, Rawang.

A Facebook post on the issue also made its rounds, claiming that Fahmi spoke about political issues in a mosque.
