Lorries plunge off bridge after crash near Tapah, one driver badly hurt

IPOH: An accident involving a container lorry and a goods lorry saw both vehicles plummet off a bridge at KM366 northbound on the North-South Expressway (NSE) near Tapah.

Perak police chief Datuk Seri Comm Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said both vehicles fell about 15m, with the goods lorry driver badly injured in the 7am Thursday (Aug 3) incident.

"The container lorry, which was carrying sundries and headed towards Ipoh, fell onto a tributary while the goods lorry landed on some shrubs.

"The incident is believed to have occurred after the goods lorry lost control and crashed into the other vehicle, which was parked on the emergency lane due to a mechanical failure," he said in a statement.

"The goods lorry driver sustained serious chest injuries and is being treated at Hospital Tapah while the other driver was not hurt," he added.

Comm Mohd Yusri said the matter is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act for negligent driving or driving without due consideration of others.

"Those with information on the accident can come forward to the police or contact investigating officer Insp P Prathiparaj at 014-617 8095.

"Motorists are advised to be careful and courteous on the road to prevent accidents," he added.
