KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) played host to some 50 students from China who paid a visit to the city as part of their study tour to Malaysia and Singapore.
MCPF's crime prevention club chairman Datuk Seri Johny Ch'ng Ewe Gee said the programme was timely as it coincided with the country's month-long Merdeka celebrations.
"The Chinese students were from several primary and secondary schools in major cities such as Beijing and Shanghai.
"To make them feel more at ease, we invited 30 students from SMJK Chung Hwa Klang to make friends and interact with them as a symbolic gesture of friendship between Malaysia and China.
"In addition, 40 students from the Saito University College also joined the group to share their experience and life at the tertiary level," he said here on Thursday (Aug 3).
Ch'ng, who is also MCPF national exco member and former Pahang MCPF chairman, said the participants were given a short briefing, detailing the history of the country and the police force before being taken on a guided tour to the Royal Malaysia Police Museum in Tasik Perdana.
He said the Chinese students were also treated to Musang King durians before posing for a group photo with their peers who waved the Jalur Gemilang in unison.
"Besides crime prevention events, MCPF is also actively embarking on nation-building activities to instil discipline, patriotism and leadership qualities among the students.
"We want the younger generation to have a sense of belonging to our beloved country and become part of the larger civil society as future leaders," he said.
Ch'ng also said the tripartite interaction was a good platform to share the country's education system with foreign students in which each student in Malaysia must take part in a sport, a club and a uniformed body.
"Many students are active members of the crime prevention club in their respective schools.
"This is where MCPF plays a role to educate and disseminate information on crime prevention from time to time. We also remind them from young that crime does not pay and will get them nowhere," he said.
Also present during the programme were MCPF exco members Datuk Kamarudin Md Ali, Datuk Seri Chong Chin Fung and Datuk Kenneth Ch'ng.
