Misbun accepts BAM president's apology

The offer is on the table for Misbun (right) to see out the remainder of his contract as BAM junior development director.

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Misbun Sidek has accepted an apology from Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) president Tan Sri Norza Zakaria.

Norza had apologised to Misbun after his contract, which was supposed to run until end of the year, was terminated prematurely on Friday (July 28).

The experienced 63-year-old coach was upset that he was asked to leave his position as junior development director early with the World Junior Championships set to be held from Sept 25-Oct 8.

He was also unhappy that he had been made a scapegoat for the junior squad's failure to win any medals in the Asian Junior Championships last month in Yogyakarta.

Norza and BAM have since moved to recall Misbun back to see out his contract.

"Misbun has accepted Norza's apology," confirmed Misbun's personal assistant Nor Kamal Ahmad.

"He is now waiting for an official letter from BAM before deciding on whether to take up his old position again or not," he said.
