Rat-infested factories to close

MELAKA: Four food processing factories were ordered to temporarily cease operations after health officers discovered rat droppings within their premises.

Melaka Health director Datuk Dr Rusdi Abd Rahman said the notices were issued to the factories at Batu Berendam, Bukit Rambai, Serkam and Umbai after a two-day operation which ended on July 31 and involved 30 officers from all three districts.“My officers issued 15 notices of compounds totalling RM35,200 under the Food Act 1983 during checks at 13 premises.

“Four of these sites were ordered to temporarily close when the level of cleanliness was found to be below par,” he said here yesterday.
