SAR op under way for missing hunter in Ranau

Search and rescuers preparing their search operation for the missing hunter.

KOTA KINABALU: The search is on for a senior citizen after he was reported missing during a hunting trip in Sabah's Ranau district.

Jurin Sahantoh, 62, was said to have gone into the forest near his house at Kg Pahu Kaingaran Ranau to hunt on July 21, but never returned.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Hamsa Isnurdini said the family only reported him missing on Wednesday (Aug 2).

He believed the family had waited a few days for Jurin to turn up as it was quite normal for him to be out hunting for days at a time, before they tried searching for him themselves.

The family only decided to call for assistance after they failed to locate him, he added.

"A search and rescue operation was mounted this morning (Thursday, Aug 3) involving dozens of people including firemen, police, Civil Defence Force personnel and villagers," said Hamsa.
