KUCHING: Unity is the key to Sarawak's stability and economic growth, says Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said the people of Sarawak lived together in harmony despite coming from different races, religions and political affiliations.

"The strong unity among Sarawakians has resulted in political stability, which in turn stimulates the economy.

"As our economy continues to grow, the people will enjoy the benefits of holistic development," he said when launching the state-level Merdeka month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign at Sarawak police headquarters here on Thursday (Aug 3).

Abang Johari said Sarawak was a model of unity in diversity and exemplified by the concept of "Segulai Sejalai" (together in unity).

"In fact, the Prime Minister has adopted 'Segulai Sejalai' to be popularised nationwide.

"We are honoured that Sarawak's multiracial unity sets an example for others to emulate," he said.

Abang Johari also said the state government would continue to work closely with Putrajaya towards national wellbeing and prosperity.

This was in line with the Malaysia Madani principles of inclusivity and togetherness, he said.

"We will strengthen our ties with the Federal Government. I believe we will receive more funding for development as a result of our togetherness," he said, adding that Sarawak was allocated RM5.6bil this year.
