State polls: New petrol station, tuition and ecotourism part of Barisan’s Johol candidate manifesto

KUALA PILAH: A new petrol station, tuition programmes and developing the ecotourism sector will be among the things Barisan Nasional’s Saiful Yazan Sulaiman (pic) will be focusing on if elected as Johol assemblyman during the Negri Sembilan state polls.

The petrol station, he said, was among the issues constantly raised during his first tenure as assemblyman here.

"We only have one in the town. This is not enough with the next nearest stations in Tampin or Kuala Pilah.

"I want to make sure this issue is resolved as quickly as possible. This is my promise," he said when launching his mini-manifesto on Wednesday (Aug 2).

The incumbent assemblyman added that public infrastructure in Johol would also see development and improvements.

"This includes building a fire station, alongside improving public recreational facilities to benefit our youth and local communities," he said.

Existing tuition programmes would also be expanded to more locations apart from the Johol assemblyman service centre, he said.

"It will be for all students, beginning with those in primary and secondary to prepare our children who will be sitting for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examinations.

"One-off monetary aid will continue to be given to students here who further their studies at higher education institutions," he added.

Ecotourism too was a focus in Johol, given its strategic location in the Kuala Pilah district, between Kuala Lumpur and Melaka.

"Johol is surrounded by natural greenery and clear rivers. Let's use this to our advantage to attract both domestic and international tourists.

"Homestay programmes will be expanded. I will hold discussions with the relevant authorities to provide training and funds to those interested to carry out such businesses," he said, adding that developing ecotourism will boost job and business opportunities for the local communities.

A framework would also be drawn up to develop unattended land around Johol to become planting sites for produce such as vegetables.

"This opens up job opportunities for locals who make agriculture their career of choice," he said.

Saiful Yazan added that various welfare programmes such as Ziarah Kasih, would be continued.

He said his manifesto contained achievable targets that were possible with detailed planning.

"This will be my vision for the coming term if I am elected again.

"They are not empty promises. They can be done," he added.

Saiful Yazan would be defending his seat in a straight fight against Perikatan Nasional’s Kamarudin Md Tahir.

Polling day in Negri Sembilan, Selangor, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu falls on Aug 12, with early polling on Aug 8.
