Berjaya cries foul over Sanusi's speech, to take legal action

PETALING JAYA: Berjaya Land Bhd has denied all allegations made by Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor over the Selangor Maritime Gateway project, saying that it was politically motivated and slanderous.

Berjaya Land Bhd group chief executive officer Syed Ali Shahul Hameed said that the Kedah caretaker Mentri Besar's remarks in his speech at the Jelajah Mega PN Best Sayangi Kedah Sejahtera event held in Jitra, Kedah on Aug 2, put both Berjaya and the Selangor government in a bad light by implying questionable dealings by both parties in relation to the project.

Syed Ali said Berjaya Land would lodge a police report and pursue legal action to protect their rights in the matter.

"Berjaya Land notes that the speech by Sanusi contains plainly false, untrue, unwarranted, unsubstantiated, malicious and mischievous statements made against the company, directly and/or indirectly pertaining to the project.

"These accusations, which we categorically deem as slanderous, false, malicious and completely without merit, were made by Sanusi.

"We feel it is imperative to set the record straight by offering precise and verified information," he said in a statement on Friday (Aug 4).

Syed Ali also included a point-by-point response to correct any inaccurate and misleading statements and to ensure that the truth was acknowledged.

On Friday, caretaker Selangor mentri besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said he would take legal action against Sanusi for his remarks and denied all the allegations made by the latter.

Claiming that the speech was slanderous, Amirudin said it represented an attempt to divert attention away from the rare earth elements (REE) scandal.
