‘Help us trace assaulted woman from viral video’

KUALA LUMPUR: The MCA and Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) are seeking assistance in locating a woman who was assaulted by a group, as depicted in a widely circulated video.

MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong said quick action is necessary as the victim may be in grave danger.

“I believe that this girl might have been forced into vice. As soon as the video went viral, the group that was seen assaulting her could attempt to shut her up permanently,” he told reporters at Wisma MCA here yesterday.

He said several people had contacted his department to step in because they felt the assault was too brutal.

“While some had assumed that the motive for the attack might be due to jealousy, I believe she could have been forced into vice after she ran away from home.

“Just have a look at the video; even while the girl was being beaten, she can be heard apologising,” he said, adding that two men and two women were seen attacking her.

According to reports, a video depicting a girl being physically attacked was uploaded on Facebook.

On July 30, around 10pm, the police received a report from a 51-year-old local man. He claimed that the girl who was assaulted in the viral video was his daughter.

The 24-year-old victim is said to have left her home in George Town last December due to family issues.

Since that time, the girl has not returned home and her family has been unable to contact her.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Soffian Santong confirmed that the case is being investigated. The police have yet to determine the location of the incident.

Also present at the press conference were MCPF vice-chairman Datuk Seri Dr Lim Chin Fui and MCPF Melaka chairman Edison Chan.

Chong urged those with information to contact the MCPF hotline at 03-2181 0055 or his department at 03-2203 3888. He appealed to anyone mistreating the girl to cease their actions immediately.
